Why We Switched to Regeneratively Farmed Oats
At Earnest Eats we made a significant change to our popular superfood oatmeal products (a great change). At the beginning of this year, we switched to regeneratively farmed oats. These oats are grown in a way that is better for the environment, the farmers, and the consumers. Harvested right here in the US on a multi-generational family farm!
So, what is regenerative agriculture?? A simple and easy way to describe it would be a holistic approach to agriculture that focuses on restoring and improving the health of the overall soil. There are a variety of specific farming practices involved , some examples are crop rotation, cover cropping, and reduced tillage, which help to build soil organic matter, improving soil structure, and increasing the soil's ability to hold water – we are a BIG fan of soil health over here!
Earnest Eats understands the importance of sustainable agriculture and the role it plays in promoting a healthy food system both in its foundation and growing nutritious foods. Since the beginning we have committed to using high-quality superfoods in our products, such as amaranth and quinoa, so switching to regeneratively farmed oats was a major “duhhh” to us.
There are many reasons why we over here at Earnest Eats made the decision to switch to regeneratively farmed oats.
-
Creating a positive impact on the environment
-
Growing highly nutritious oats – oats that have been grown in nutritious soil, free from harmful chemicals
-
Making an example that positive changes lead to even larger impacts
Earnest Eats is not the only company to recognize the benefits of regenerative agriculture, which is hopeful and exciting! A growing number of companies and farmers are adopting these practices to create more sustainable and resilient food systems (yayy!). We are so excited about this switch to supporting regenerative farming that we hope you are too!
